Kristo Käärmann Portrait

Date November 13, 2015
It’s a pretty awesome day when you get the pleasure of photographing a man that’s saved you a lot of money.

This was the case with Kristo Käärmann, co-founder and CEO of Transferwise. If you’re not already familiar with Transferwise, in a nutshell, it’s a service that cuts the extortionate fees that banks have traditionally charged clients like you and me. Yes, the also take a fee (everyone deserves to get paid), but at a dramatically lower rate.

To date, Kristo’s company has saved me £485 as compared to what I would have paid Bank Austria to move money for me. Since first hearing of the service, I’ve switched all my money moving to Transferwise. Adding to the sweetness of the service, by using this url: you’ll get your first transfer for free. Likewise, as a thank you for the referral, Transferwise sent £50 to my account after the third user completed a transfer. Now that’s what I call customer relation awesomeness.

So when Kristo spoke at the 2015 NOAH Conference in London, I didn’t waste the opportunity to not only photograph him, but thank him in person. A true gentleman and pioneer, he was more than happy to do the shot, all of which took no more than 2 minutes to accomplish.

Similar to the Sir Richard Branson Shot, I used the Fuji X-T1 and 2 speedlight combo to achieve this image.
