As part of my coverage of the Decoded Fashion London event earlier this year, I was asked to set up a step-and-repeat wall and capture portraits of notable attendees and speakers. I completely understand why, but I’ve never been a fan of these branded backgrounds.

Allegra Moet Brantly is the summit development & partnerships manager for Decoded Fashion, as well as designer and creator of A.MOAY, a luxury robe and travel finery brand that makes stylish and printed loungewear with enhanced fabric, fit and function.

After a day of shooting Allegra approached me and asked if I was all done. As the venue was hosting another event that evening, I had to pack up my studio gear and get out of dodge. However, ever eager to seize an opportunity, I quickly spotted this flat grey wall around the corner and set up my lights.

This portrait is actually the test shot. We grabbed a few more great images, but this one stands out to me. We were fooling about with, “Go on, give me the classic portrait pose,” which Allegra gladly struck. Cliche, yes, but I also believe cliche’s exist for a reason. They’re classic. Allegra’s comment, “Wow, I look like my mother in this image. She’s beautiful.”
